Hydrangea Vintage Treasures     "So I went and bought some bag shapes, fabrics, crystal, glass and vintage pieces and created a number of original bags," says Roberta. "I was pleased with the way they came out, so I marched them over to this fancy little boutique where I used to shop. I had about 10 of them, and I saud to the owner, 'I've been designing handbags. As a small boutique business, would you be interested in any of these?' And she said, 'I'll take them all!' The bags sold within a week, and she called me back and asked for more. Then I added a few more boutiques and had a trunk show and the response was overwhelming." During one trunk show, Roberta sold 120 handbags in two hours. She figured something must be going on.
"The only thing I can think of that created such a response is probably the exact thing that prompted me to start making handbags in the first place," says Roberta. "I think the big stores have gotten away from the 'imaginative,' and if you want something that's different and totally unique, you have to spend $500. Just because you have a career in business or finance or medicine or law doesn't mean you want to look like everyone else-it doesn't mean you don't have a creative side. I call the bags 'Handbags for the Socially Creative' because these women chose them as a creative expression, and they appreciate carrying an original handbag that often becomes a conversation piece."
